Check Basket Dose Using the Machine Instructions
Use the dose guidance for the exact machine and basket before interpreting a wet puck. Different equipment can have different dose and clearance requirements. A coin impression or a fixed millimeter gap is not a universal calibration method.

Identify the machine and basket
Record the machine, basket and supported coffee preparation method. Read the maker's dose and troubleshooting directions. Do not assume every machine has the same pressure-release mechanism or that puddled water proves one cause.
Use the supported dose check
Measure and prepare coffee under the maker's instructions, using a supplied dose tool only where applicable. Do not insert an arbitrary coin and diagnose underfilling or overfilling from its imprint.
Keep changes within the supported range
If a preparation needs adjustment, use the machine/basket guidance and record the actual change. Do not prescribe a roast-specific gram reduction or a fixed clearance for all baskets.
Separate observations from conclusions
Record the actual flow and puck appearance without promising a solid disc, clean drainage or uniform extraction. Follow the maker's troubleshooting route for abnormal behavior rather than treating appearance alone as a measured extraction result.
Treat accessories as compatibility questions
Use a puck screen or other accessory only where suitable for the actual machine and basket under its directions. Do not add one solely to fill a guessed gap. Handle hot or pressurized parts under the machine's safe-state instructions.
A little more
to know.
Does a wet puck prove underdosing or under-extraction?
No. Use the actual machine's troubleshooting and dose guidance; appearance alone does not establish either diagnosis.
Should a puck screen replace a dose adjustment?
Not as a generic gap-filling fix. Check the machine, basket and accessory instructions before changing the preparation.
